Brass Krishna Idol with Flute - 5.5 Inch

Krishna and his flute, cast in brass

Lord Krishna as Murlidhar, the flute player, standing in the graceful tribhanga pose with one foot crossed over the other. At 5.5 inches (about 14 cm) tall on a compact 5 × 4 cm base, this handcrafted brass idol has presence on a mandir or shelf without taking up much room, and rewards a close look.

The details

• The flute: held to his lips, its end finished with a small peacock.
• Peacock at the shoulder: a nod to the peacock feather Krishna always wears.
• Garland and dhoti: a long vaijayanti garland falls to the knees over a deeply pleated dhoti.
• Engraved base: the round pedestal is decorated with cows, for Krishna as Gopala, the cowherd of Vrindavan.
• Antique gold finish: darkened recesses bring out the carving.

Where to place it

• Home mandir: a natural centrepiece for daily pooja and for Janmashtami.
• Living room or reading nook: on a clean, raised shelf, where the standing pose shows in profile.

Caring for your idol

Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid water, and don't use brass polish or cleaners: they strip the antique finish that gives the carving its depth.
